SUMMARY OF TOPICS

The following changes in requirements to the Standard for Portable Electric Luminaires, UL 153, are being proposed:

1. Add requirements for USB and POE Portable Luminaires

2. Scope clarification relative to decorative lighting

3. Revise definition of “Lamp” in Glossary

4. Clarify requirements for portable luminaires intended for use without a shade

5. Add requirements for lampholders for use with instant start ballasts

6. Add requirements for button and coin batteries

7. Add requirements for overcurrent protection

8. Clarify and consolidate requirements for surface mounted units

9. Remove requirements for internal wiring protection for cord and chain - suspended units

10. Clarify requirements for cord length, markings, and installation instructions for portable cabinet lights

11. Relocate requirements for conversion kits

12. Eliminate requirements for work lights mounted on generators

13. Revise requirements for ambient temperature measurement method

14. Eliminate restrictions for 3-way lampholders

15. Clarify requirements for tungsten halogen overlamping test method

16. Add requirements for portable luminaires marked “Suitable for Damp Locations”

17. Clarify stability test requirements for portable luminaires with articulated arms
